Travel down the beautiful and scenic Highway 1, while enjoying stunning views of the Pacific Coast at every turn! The Pacific Ocean will be off your right shoulder as you head south through great cities like Carmel, Big Sur, San Simeon, Pismo Beach, Solvang and Ventura. The ride will depart from the Palo Alto VA and finish at the West Los Angeles VA.

This ride will be limited to 200 participants with a minimum $3,000 fee. Your $75 registration fee is applied to your total fee. All healing heroes ride for free.

Due to the difficult nature of the California Challenge there will be a limited number of handcycles/recumbents permitted. If you are interested in participating please submit your name to your Project HERO Regional Manager for approval: West Region-Brian Scholl and East Region-Mike King

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE.  Participation is by invitation only and your online registration does not guarantee you a slot. If you participate in a Project HERO Program, please contact your local Project HERO Representative to let them know you are registered. For all other Wounded, Ill and Injured Service Members and Veterans (Healing Heroes), please contact your Regional Managers, West Region-Brian Scholl and East Region-Mike King for more information.

Healing Heroes only: Your online registration does not guarantee your participation.  Participation is by invitation only.  Contact your R2R Project Manager for more information.

This ride is rated Category "A" (difficult)

Invitational criteria may be based on one or more of the following:

1. Category (difficulty) of the ride

2. Participant's ability to successfully complete the ride

3. Participant's past history on R2R Challenges

4. Participation in Project Hero or Strava

5. Fundraising

Ride 2 Recovery Golden State Challenge October 4 - 11, 2014 - Sunnyvale to West Los Angeles, CA

ONE DAY RIDE Ride 2 Recovery One Day Ride - California Challenge October 4 - 11, 2014 - If you cannot join us for the whole ride, but would like to join us for ANY One Day during the tour.


$75 - Standard One Day Ride: includes event t-shirt, mechanical support, hydration / snacks

$200 - DELUXE Rider package: includes event t-shirt, mechanical support, hydration/snacks, and a "goodie bag" with a water bottle, pair of R2R socks, and limited edition R2R event jersey

$450 - OVERNIGHT Deluxe Rider Package (subject to availability): includes event t-shirt, mechanical support, hydration / snacks, "goodie bag" with water bottle, pair of R2R socks, and limited edition R2R jersey.  Also includes Hotel stay at host hotel (DOUBLE OCCUPANCY) the night before the ride.  Dinner is also included with priority access to all nightly events.

$600 - OVERNIGHT Deluxe Rider Package with Transportation (subject to availability):  same as above, and after dinner, transportation will be provided back to the ride start.

The Honor Rides Series raises awareness and is the funding arm for Ride 2 Recovery and gives the public the opportunity to ride with healing heroes and enlisted military on a non-competitive, fun ride. Close to 20 Honor Rides will take place throughout the year, with varying distances from 10 to 100 miles. All funds raised through the Honor Ride Series support Project Hero programs throughout the US.

Support Project Hero

Ride 2 Recovery’s Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) Provides training and support for community based programs. Begun in November 2010 at Bethesda Naval Medical Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), Project HERO has proven the effectiveness of group riding in the rehabilitation and recovery of injured servicemembers.

Special Events are meant to provide a rehabilitative experience for Healing Heroes that is similar to the Challenge Series but in a unique location with different and distinctive activities. Generally, these events require advanced fitness and abilities compared to the Challenge Series.
