LOCAL EVENT DIRECTORS WANTED!

Ride 2 Recovery has plans for national expansion of the program and we want to expand our event success into your city.

Based on the tremendous feedback we have received during the Tour de France, thanks to Versus, we are looking for event directors to host and coordinate new One-Day fundraising rides for the Ride 2 Recovery program.

As a Ride 2 Recovery, CycleFest Director, you utilize our R2R branding and expertise and combine it with your vision for an event/events that best fit your community. For instance, some directors might want to add a Spin-athon and/or a 5 or 10K. We suggest offering a few distances (i.e. 20 mi, 50 mi, 100K, 100mi) and add any elements (entertainment, expo) to make your CycleFest memorable.

Event Director/City duties include:
  1. Event rider/participant recruitment
  2. Event route development and coordination
  3. Local media/PR outreach
  4. Local sponsorships and fundraising
  5. Outreach to the community for volunteers and assistance.
  6. Event customization to fit your individual city’s needs
R2R will provide:
  1. R2R logo and licensing of brand
  2. Event how-to template and manual
  3. National Partnerships
  4. Marketing support – (i.e. web support currently under construction)
  5. Merchandising and fundraising prizes (i.e. t-shirts, hats, jersey’s, etc.)
  6. Online registration through the ride2recovery.com website.

Event insurance will be available thru USA Cycling for all CYCLEFEST events.

This is a fun and tremendously rewarding way to get involved with your local Military and Veteran community and help support the wounded heroes who have served our country.

The money raised from this effort will go to:
  1. Support the participation of wounded warriors in the Ride 2 Recovery program and events.
  2. Purchase bikes, helmets, and other technical equipment required.
Ride 2 Recovery’s Mission
To improve the health and wellness of wounded warriors by providing a life changing experience that can impact their lives forever.

"Getting together in groups and the resulting social connection is the royal road to recovery for combat veterans with psychological injuries", Dr. Jonathan Shay ( PTSD expert and VA psychiatrist). Quoted in NY Times Jan. 2008

R2R Program
R2R supports Spinning® Recovery Labs and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help injured veterans overcome obstacles they face. Cycling is an important part of the recovery and rehabilitation program for two reasons:

1. Cycling is an activity that almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can participate.
2. Participation in the Ride 2 Recovery Program helps speed up the recovery and rehabilitation process.

The Ride 2 Recovery program has a goal of as many as 30- One-Day events by the end of 2010. There are some built-in advantages for certain dates in which you could host an event. Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11), American Legion Day (September 16), Flag Day (June 14), Armed Forces Day (May 17), D-Day (June 6) and Memorial Day just to name a few.

We have many partners interested in supporting this effort including the VA, WTC, The American Legion Family, USO, and the Knights of Columbus and will be happy to share with you the contacts we have.
